Morning Spruce

The 198 meter long, 28676 dwt vehicle carrier Morning Spruce became disabled near Oregon near the mouth of the Columbia River.   The Morning Spruce had suffered a power blackout and went adrift.   The crew was able to restore power later the same day.   A tug was dispatched to the vessel to escort it into the river.   The vessel will proceed to Portland, Oregon where it will be inspected by the Coast Guard.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being  released.

The fishing vessel Steve C became disabled while off Clatsop Spit, Oregon with some 22 tons of fish on board.  The fishing vessel had lost steering and contacted the Coast Guard.   The Coast Guard dispatched a lifeboat from Station Cape Disappointment which proceeded in heavy swells to the scene.   The lifeboat was able to secure a towline to the Steve C and proceeded back to Cape Disappointment.   Both vessels were able to sucessfully cross over the Columbia River bar through 14 to 18 foot swells.   No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.

New York Lost

New York Lost

The 50 foot fishing vessel New York went ashore near Coos Bay, Oregon.   The crew contacted the Coast Guard that the vessel had water ingress and required assistance.   The Coast Guard launched the 47 foot lifeboat along with a Dolphin helicopter to the scene.  The Helicopter attempted to hoist the three men on board the New York, but the heavy surf made the fishing vessel to unstable.  The three men on the fishing vessel were able to swim ashore on their own.  The Coast Guard transported the men back to North Bend station where EMS were awaiting.  No reports of injuries, but there is large amounts of debris and some pollution released.   The New York had 300 gallons of diesel fuel and 15 gallons of hydraulic oil on board at the time of the incident.  An oil spill response contractor has been hired to assess and perform clean-up operations.
