On the morning of September 30, the 85 meter long self-propelled barge Altair (MMSI: 211191530) allided on the Osnabrück Canal at Osnabrück, Germany.  The Altair had departed from Sachsenhagen when it struck a bridge over the canal at Osnabrück.  The barge’s wheelhouse was destroyed in the allision while a water pipe on the bridge was damaged. The master of the Altair suffered minor injures. He would later receive medical treatment. Traffic on the bridge was halted during an inspection, but was reopened a few hours later. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. No reports of pollution released.

The 80 meter long self-propelled barge Taurus allided with a bridge on the Osnabruck Canal near Wallenhorst, Germany.  The master of the vessel had not lowered the wheelhouse enough to pass underneath the bridge.   The Taurus suffered damage to its wheelhouse while the bridge had several cables damage.  No reports of injuires or pollution released.  The water police detained the vessel while an investigation continues.

The 67 meter long self-propelled barge Heike W caught fire on the Osnabrück Canal while at Osnabrück, Germany.   The fire started in the engine room when a diesel generator overheated.  The crew was able to extinguish the blaze with the local fire brigade assisting.   No reports of injuries or pollution released.   Damage was reported to be an estimated 100.000 € including a replacement generator.   The water police has launched an investigation into the incident.
