On the morning of January 21, the fishing vessel Quantum  ran aground in Pasagshak Bay approximately 2 miles offshore of Kodiak, Alaska. The Quantum was reported to be preparing for catching Pacific cod when the season opens on January 27 around Kodiak when it gran up on the rocks. The fishing vessel suffered hull damage and uncontrolled water ingress. The two crew members on board donned survival suits and alerted authorities for assistance.  The United States Coast Guard dispatched a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter to assist the crew.  The helicopter would arrive 90 minutes later and  hoist the 2 crew members to safety.  No reports of injuries.

The Quantum was last reported still stranded on the rocks. The Coast Guard is coordinating the salvage with the owner of the fishing vessel.
