On the early morning hours of May 5, the 57 meter long towboat Irkutsk collided with the 116 meter long river passenger ship Moldavia on the Danube River near Esztergom, Hungary. The Irkutsk’s bow struck into the port side of the Moldavia just aft of the wheelhouse. The Moldavia sustained significant damage to several cabins and its upper deck. Reports state one person was injured in the collision.  No reports of pollution released. Hungarian police detained the master of the Irkutsk and has launched an investigation into the incident.

The 40 meter long passenger ship Stadt Kappeln became disabled on the Schlei Inlet. The Stadt Kappeln had suffered engine failure and went adrift. The vessel requested assistance and the DGzRS dispatched two rescue boats from Maasholm. The DGzRS took the Stadt Kappeln under tow and proceeded to Kappeln. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On April 9, the 135 meter long passenger ship Amaverde collided with another river passenger ship on the Main River near Eltmann, Germany. The Amaverde was on a cruise from Nurnberg to Budapest with 160 passengers. While en route to Bamberg, the Amaverde struck head-on with the other passenger ship while passing under the Eltmanner Road Bridge. Both vessels sustained damage in the bow estimated to be over 10,000 Euros. No pollution released.

The Amaverde proceeded a short distance and evacuated all 160 passengers on board. Passengers were later picked up by coaches. No reports of injuries.  Authorities later fined the master of the Amaverde for illegally unloading passengers. Reports state the damage was limited and the Amaverde proceeded on to Bamberg.  Passengers had embarked and the vessel continued on its planned voyage to Erlangen.
