The 79 foot long, 47 dwt high-speed catamaran Baranof Wind ran aground in Glacier Bay, Alaska.  The passenger ship, with 72 passengers on board, was on a day-time sightseeing trip when it struck a rock.   The Baranof Wind suffered hull damage and water ingress, but the crew was able to contain the flooding.  The passengers were transferred to the 238 meter long, 6150 dwt cruise ship Volendam who will transport the passengers to Bartlett Cove.  There the passengers will be taken to Juneau by another vessel.    The Coast Guard reported that several people suffered minor injuries in the incident.   No reports of pollution released.   The Baranof Wind will be towed later back to port.   The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident.

Twin City Liner

The 33 meter long, 40 ton passenger ship / catamaran Twin City Liner ran aground on the Danube Canal near Vienna, Austria.   The Twin City Liner was proceeding along the canal with 100 people when it suffered an engine failure allowing the vessel onto the canal’s embankment.   Ten passengers suffered minor injuries with two taken to hospital.  The remaining passengers were safely transferred ashore and were aided by the local fire brigade.   The passenger ship suffered no damage or pollution and was able to refloat itself a short time later the same day.   The Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

Atlantis

Atlantis

The 59 meter long, 223 dwt passenger ship Atlantis suffered fire while at drydock in Kiel, Germany.  The fire start from a welding torch in the engine room filling the compartment with dense smoke.   The local fire brigade was called to the scene and were able to extinguish the blaze.   No reports of injuries.   The amount of damage caused by the fire was not disclosed.  The Atlantis was undergoing refit after being idle in Harburg.
