Aeroeskoebing Aground

The 50 meter long, 204 dwt passenger vessel Aeroeskoebing went aground on a sandbank between Svendborg and Ærøskøbing, Denmark.  The passenger ship was stuck for 18 hours until the tide returned allowing it to refloat itself free.  No reports of injuries to the crew or the 148 passengers on board.   The Aeroeskoebing was able to proceed to Ærøskøbing, Denmark under its own power.  No reports of damage or pollution being released.

MS Nordstjernen

MS Nordstjernen

The 80 meter long, 610 dwt passenger ship Nordstjernen became disabled outside Stadlandet, Norway after an engine failure.  The vessel contacted authorities who dispatched the lifeboat Emmy Dyvi to the scene.  The lifeboat took the Nordstjernen under tow and proceeded to Trovik, Norway.   No reports of injuries of the 34 passengers or 30 crew on board.  The vessel had a replacement pump flown to Trovik to repair the engine.  No damage or pollution released.

Super Ferry Collision

Super Ferry Collision

The 151 meter long, 3520 dwt passenger ship Superferry 20 collided with the fishing vessel San Jose Bayanihan off Sarangani, Philippines.  The fishing vessel was completely wrecked and sank.  The six of the seven crew on board the San Jose Bayanihan were rescued by a Coast Guard vessel who was patrolling nearby.  One crewman perished and his body was later recovered.  No reports of injuries on board the Superferry who had 542 passengers on board during the incident.
