Pollution in Sottunga Bay

The 110 meter long, 1642 dwt passenger vessel Kapella released oil pollution in the Sottunga Bay, Finland, while bound for Kapellskar from Turku.   The oil spill was spotted by a helicopter and was reported to be 35 kilometers long.   The vessel was detained until the oil leak could be stopped.   The vessel completed repairs and proceeded an hour later.   The Coast Guard was unable recover the pollution as it was too scattered.   The amount of pollution released is not known.

Madam Allision

Madam Allision

The passenger vessel Madam struck the Skarprunmarns bridge at Stavsnäs in Värmdö, Sweden.   The Madam was on its normal schedule of Stockholm-Stavnäs-Nämdö-Mortos-Björkvik-Tyresö-Saltsjöbade and was approaching the bridge at Stavsnäs.   The vessel was approaching the piers with too much speed so the vessel’s engines were thrown into reverse to slow it down.   However, the engines stalled and the vessel struck the bridge.   Three passengers suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital.   No details on damage to the vessel or bridge.

Passenger ship Allision

A 110 meter long passenger ship’s bow struck the Jochenstein lock wall while sailing from Passau to Budapest.   With 160 passengers on board, the vessel suffered 10,000 € damage to the bow.   All the damage was above the waterline and the ship was allowed to continue on to Budapest.  The lock sustained damage around 5000 €.    No one was injured in the incident.   The lock was able to opperate and boat traffic was not impacted.  Report from lock kepper at Jochenstein, Germany.
