J. Henry Dunant Fire

A fire broke out on the 97 meter long passenger vessel J. Henry Dunant while it was moored at Tiel, Netherlands on the Waal River.   The fire started in the engine room and was quickly put out by the crew using extinguishers.  There were no passengers on board at the time of the fire.   Passengers were later allowed to board the vessel as damage was minor.  The J. Henry Dunant is chartered by the Red Cross who organizes trips for people who have special needs, chronically ill and the disabled.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.

Collision on the Rhine

Collision on the Rhine

The 136  passengers on board the 110 meter long passenger vessel River Concerto were rudely awaken to a crash in the night.   The River Concerto had  been struck by the tanker Margaux causing considerable damage above the waterline.  The River Concerto safely evacuated the passengers at Emmerich, Germany including five passengers and two crew members who were injured in the collision.   The Margaux suffered some damage from the collision, but there was no leak of the 950 tons of diesel fuel aboard.    The River Concerto had left from Basel and was bound for Rotterdam before the collision.   Local Officials are conducting an investigation into the incident.

Adler Express

Adler Express

The high speed passenger ship Adler Express ran aground between the German island of Pellworm and the former island of Nordstrand (which is now a pennisula).   None of the crew or the 100 passengers on board were injured.   Nearly all the passengers were transferred to another passenger vessel or by the rescue vessel Eiswette.   The vessel refloated later the same day with the rising tide.  No reports of damage or pollution being released.
