The 1181 dwt ro-ro ferry Cebu Ferry 1 caught fire near Batangas, Philippines.  The ferry had left port en route to port of Caticlan on Boracay Island with 25 passengers when it caught fire off Matuko Point.   The vessel requested assistance with the Philippine Coast Guard dispatching rescue vessels and aircraft to the scene.  The ferry Supercat 38  was in the area and headed to the Cebu Ferry 1.  The 43 passengers on the Cebu Ferry 1 were transferred safely to the Supercat 38 while the crew and rescue vessels extinguish the blaze.  The ferry was taken under tow by a tug and proceeded to Batangas.  No reports of injuries.   The cause of the fire has not been determined.   The vessel is to be inspected by the Coast Guard to check the extent of damage from the blaze.

The fishing vessel QNG 95712 went aground near Bowen Island, a small islet located the northside of Bugsuk Island, Palawan, Philippines.   The fishing vessel encountered bad weather causing the vessel to drift into the shallow waters.   The Philippine Coast Guard responded and rescued all nine crew men on board.   No reports of injuries.

The 112 meter long, 10903 dwt freighter Sun Spirits sank off the coast near Binorong Point, Cantanduanes, Philippines.  The freighter had developed a list when its cargo of 9,900 metric tons of iron ore shifted in heavy seas.  The vessel sent out a distress call which Philippine Coast Guard and Navy dispatched vessels and helicopters.   The crew of 14 from the Sun Spirits abandoned ship into the lifeboats.   The nearby freighter Oriental Xanadu rescued 11 crew off Rapu-rapu Island.  A fishing boat rescued another 3 crew then brought the crew to the Coast Guard.   No reports of injuries.
