The fishing vessel QNG 95712 went aground near Bowen Island, a small islet located the northside of Bugsuk Island, Palawan, Philippines.   The fishing vessel encountered bad weather causing the vessel to drift into the shallow waters.   The Philippine Coast Guard responded and rescued all nine crew men on board.   No reports of injuries.

Sun Spirits

The 112 meter long, 10903 dwt freighter Sun Spirits sank off the coast near Binorong Point, Cantanduanes, Philippines.  The freighter had developed a list when its cargo of 9,900 metric tons of iron ore shifted in heavy seas.  The vessel sent out a distress call which Philippine Coast Guard and Navy dispatched vessels and helicopters.   The crew of 14 from the Sun Spirits abandoned ship into the lifeboats.   The nearby freighter Oriental Xanadu rescued 11 crew off Rapu-rapu Island.  A fishing boat rescued another 3 crew then brought the crew to the Coast Guard.   No reports of injuries.

Superferry 1 Aground

The 132 meter long, 2908 dwt passenger vessel Superferry 1 went aground off Ditaytayan Island, Philippines.   The Superferry 1 loaded with 618 passengers from Puerto Princesa City was close to the port at Coron when it struck a reef.  The Philippine Coast Guard was alerted and deployed two vessels to the scene.   With the aid of three other vessels, all 618 passengers were evacuated from the Superferry 1 and safely taken ashore.   Reports state the passengers are housed at the local gymnasium until a replacement vessel can arrive to take them to Manila.   The Superferry 1 has suffered a minor list, but no reports of hull damage or water ingress.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released.
