On July 6, a 125 meter long barge was blown ashore along the shoreline of Vigan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines. The barge had floated away after its towline broke from the tugboat Trabajador 1.  The 69 meter long, 1039 dwt Trabajador 1 was proceeding to Bataan when big waves and strong winds brought on by Typhoon Egay snapped the towing line resulting with the barge washed on to a nearby beach. No reports of injuries.

The 33 tonne wooden-hulled ferry Kim Nirvana capsized off Ormoc City, Philippines. The ferry was on a regular trip with 199 passengers and crew bound for Camotes Island when it capsized just off the port. Reports state the ferry had made a sharp turn to starboard as it was struck by a large wave.  The Kim Nirvana lost stability and rolled over.  Passengers attempted to escape to the other side of the vessel, but many remained trapped. Local reports state some 51 persons perished with some 141 were rescued.

On June 15, the 107 meter long, 7200 dwt cargo vessel Ocean 03 ran aground at the entrance to the port of Legazpi City, Philippines. The Ocean 03 was doing a maneuver en route into Albay Gulf when it ran aground some 900 yards off the entrance and struck a coral reef.  The vessel was later pulled free and proceeded to a nearby anchorage. No reports of injuries to the 21 crew and no oil pollution was released. Authorities stated some 2,000 square meters of coral reef was damaged and the vessel was detained while an investigation continued into the incident.
