The passenger ship Weesam Express 6 went aground off Bantolinao Point near Lapu-Lapu City, Philippines.  The Weesam Express 6 was en route to Cebu from Ormoc when it grounded due to the high winds and strong currents.  The Philippine Coast Guard dispatched a rescue vessel to the scene. The Weesam Express 7, sister ship of the Weesam Express 6, changed course to the area to help refloat the stranded vessel.  The Weesam Express 6 was later refloated the same day and escorted to Cebu.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

The 7698 dwt freighter Asia Peace sank in stormy seas in the Luzon Strait, Philippines.  The freighter had departed from Papua New Guinea bound for China with a cargo off timber.  While off the northeastern Philippines, the Asia Peace was swept by waves four to five meters high.   The waves caused the timber cargo to shift resulting in hull plates fracturing.  The freighter suffered water ingress and began to list.  The crew sent out a distress call and abandoned ship before the vessel sank.  The 32573 dwt bulk freighter Yangtze Eternal responded and was able to rescue 20 crewmen from the Asia Peace.  Conflicting reports state there was 20 or 25 crew on board at the time.

Georich

The 56 meter long, 770 dwt ro-ro passenger ship Georich became disabled  in Dapitan Bay, Philippines. The Georich was en route to Cebu from Dumaguete when it suffered engine failure.  The vessel contacted authorities who dispatched a rescue vessel along with the passenger ship Tresha Krestin to the scene.  There the Philippine Coast Guard personnel safely transferred the 143 passengers to the Tresha Krestin.  They disembarked at Cebu later the same day.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
