The 68 meter long, 1590 dwt container ship Sinaran Andaman ran ashore off Hey Island, Phuket, Thailand.  The boxship was en route to Myanmar from Penang when it was struck by a strong monsoon with waves reaching four meters.  The storm blew the boxship onto the rocky shore. The Sinaran Andaman hull was torn open and the vessel settled, but the deck cargo of containers floated off the deck.  Many of the containers smashed against the shoreline just a short distance away.  Three of the 10  crew on board were hoisted to safety by two Thailand Navy helicopters with the remainder rescued by a patrol vessel.  Reports state some of the crew sustained injuries and taken to hospital for treatment.

On May 20, the 78 meter long, 2408 dwt tanker Moresby 9 allided with a bridge over the Trang River near Phuket, Thailand. The Moresby 9 was en route to a repair yard when it suffered engine failure and lost power. Strong currents and wind pushed the disabled tanker into the bridge causing severe damage to the bridge. Some 10 meters of concrete on the bridge was crushed and closed the bridge to all traffic. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

The 89 meter long, 2876 dwt LPG tanker Kanthicha caught fire while anchored at Phuket, Thailand.   The fire started in the communications room.  The crew attempted to put of the flames, but there was too much smoke.   The crew requested assistance with personnel from the Marine Department and a helicopter from the Thai Navy responding.   Their combined effort the fire was extinguished a few hours later.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.
