The crew sealed off the compartment to contain the blaze and turned on the fire suppression system, but the system was unable to extinguish the blaze. The Mar da Galega requested assistance with several vessels coming to her aid. The fishing vessel was taken under tow to Peniche where the fire was finally extinguished. On October 23, the 21 meter long fishing vessel Segredos Do Mar sank off Sesimbra near Lisbon, Portugal. The Segredos Do Mar had become disabled when it suffered a mechanical breakdown which resulted in the fishing vessel to run aground on the rocks just off the shoreline.
