Roping The Wind
The fishing vessel Roping The Wind ran aground in Hardy’s Channel, Prince Edwards Island, Canada. The Roping The Wind was heading out to set another load of traps when it ran aground in the narrow shallow channel. The crew attempted to refloat the fishing vessel, but waves washed over the side of the vessel swamping the lobster boat. Another fishing vessel, the Spring Loaded ’04 was heading back to port when it caught sight of the stranded Roping The Wind. The Spring Loaded ’04 rescued three crew off the Roping The Wind. The fishing Vessel David Clements also arrived on scene and rescued one crewman from the water. Additionally, the Auxiliary Coast Guard vessel Lyndon Hardy went out to assist in the rescue efforts. The Lyndon Hardy pulled up against the Roping The Wind and pulled the last crewman off the fishing vessel. All five crewmen of the Roping The Wind suffered from hypothermia and received medical care. Reports state salvage of the vessel and gear will be done when weather conditions improve.
