Collision in Bergen Fjord
The 58 meter long, 1323 dwt freighter Rana Frakt collided with the 46 meter long, 500 dwt live fish carrier Robas in the Bergen Fjord near Bergen, Norway. The Robas loaded with 100 tons of salmon from Haugesund to Florø
sustain hull damage and water ingress. The crew elected to run the Robas aground to ensure the vessel did not sink. The Rana Frakt bound for Sandnes with a cargo of steel sustained some damage to its bow and proceed to Bergen for repairs. No reports of injuries or pollution being released. Authorities have reported that alcohol was not a factor in the collision. The cause of the collision has not been released, but investigators have stated there was no communication between the two vessels prior to the collision.
