Bereg Nadezhdy Aground (Update 1)

The 153 meter long, 13879 dwt refer freighter Bereg Nadezhdy went aground in the Barents Sea on Kildin Bay, Russia (69 17.57N 034 23.28E).  The freighter was caught in a severe storm with high winds and swells up to seven meter high.   The vessel is ashore with its ballast tank holed and water ingress in the engine room.   The Bereg has a slight list to port wedged on two large rocks.   One of the 29 crewmen suffered a broken leg and was evacuated by a Navy helicopter.  Two tugs were dispatched to the scene.  Salvage may be attempted later in calm seas at high tide.

Reefer Disabled

The 70 dwt refrigerated fish carrier West was reported disabled off Ozerniy Point in the Bering Sea after suffering engine failure.   The crew was able to fix the issue with the engine and the fish carrier was able resume its voyage.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released.

Tsunami: Khrizolitovyy

The 523 dwt reefer fish vessel Khrizolitovyy was damaged during the tsunami while berthed in the port of Ofunato, Japan. The vessel was pushed to shore and then pulled back when the waters retreated leaving the vessel aground. The main engine was damaged. There was 13 crew on board which were able to be taken aboard a fishing vessel as there was no way to reach shore. Two crew were ashore during the tsunami and reported in a rehabilitation center. One crewman suffered a broken leg/hand.
