On April 9, the 67 meter long self-propelled tanker-barge Rodort 8 allided with a railway bridge over the Rhine-Herne Canal in Herne, Germany. The wheelhouse of the Rodort 8 struck the underside of the bridge and was destroyed. The master of the Rodort 8 was injured and taken to hospital for treatment.

The Rodort 8 was towed to a nearby quay. Reports state damage to the Rodort 8 was over 100,000 €. The water police has launched an investigation into the incident.

On September 21, the 105 meter long self-propelled barge Densimo allided with a bridge over the Rhine-Herne Canal between Crange and Baukau, Germany. The barge’s wheelhouse was completely destroyed along with the accommodation block severely damaged. No reports of injuries to the four crew on board.

The disabled Densimo was taken under tow to a nearby canal port. The Densimo was en route to Amsterdam from Duisburg in ballast before the allision.

The 100 meter long self-propelled barge Kamperzand allided with power lines over the Rhine Herne Canal near Heil, Germany. The Kamperzand was en route to Heil from Lünen with a cargo of coal when the barge’s crane struck the power lines. The crane was torn off the deck while the power lines came down. Reports state there was a power outage in the towns of  Rünthe, Oberaden, and Heil. Local fire brigade was called to remote the damaged lines.  No reports of injuries. Reports state the crew on the Kamperzand had raised the crane to haul a vehicle on board causing the incident.
