Marcona

Marcona

The 185 meter long self-propelled barge Marcona with a convoy of barges allided with a bridge on the Rhine River at Bonn, Germany.  The Marcona became disabled when some flotsam became wedged in the port-side propeller causing the vessel to swing into a pillar of the bridge.  The wires between the barges snapped and the barges broke free.  The crew of the Marcona dropped anchor and the barges were taken along side.  The bridge suffered minor damage that does not require immediate repairs.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released.   The Marcona was allowed to continue its voyage later.

RP Rheinfelden

RP Rheinfelden

The 110 meter long self-propelled tanker-barge RP Rheinfelden went aground on the Rhine River near Geisenheim, Germany.  The Rheinfelden was proceeding in dense fog when another vessel appeared.  The tanker-barge veered to avoid collision, but went aground.  The RP Rheinfelden was later released with the aid of a tug with minor damage.   No reports of injuries or pollution being released.  The Rheinfelden proceeded to Birsfelden, Switzerland with its cargo of 800 tons of gasoline.

Vidi Aground

Vidi Aground

The tanker Vidi loaded with 1250 tons of lubricating oil went aground on the Rhine River near Altrip, Germany.   The Vidi was headed for Antwerp when it got stuck in the shipping channel blocking traffic including the ferry service to Mannheim.  On the second attempt, the Vidi was refloated by the aids of tugs.   The tanker proceeded to Mannheim to be inspected for damage.  No reports of injuries and no pollution was released.
