Ireen

The 110 meter long self-propelled tanker-barge Ireen allided on the Rhine near Vogelgrun, Germany.  The Ireen was proceeding northbound from Birsfelden in ballast when it approached the lock.  As it entered the lock, the crew lost control and the tanker rammed the lock gates and wall.  No reports of injuries or pollution released. Both the Ireen and the lock sustained severe damage.  The lock was reported to be inoperable and the second lock had been taken out of service.   The next day workmen were able to bring the second lock into service to allow ship traffic to continue.

JEANDINE

The 110 meter long self-propelled tanker barge Jeandine became disabled on the Rhine near Assmannshausen, Germany.   The Jeandine broke its  clutch and gearbox when a floating log became wedged in the propeller.   No reports of injuries.   The Jeandine dropped anchor until it could be towed to Bingen.  There the tanker will lighter its cargo of 2000 tons of jet fuel before going into a shipyard for repairs.  No reports of pollution being released.

FELIX

The 23 meter long passenger ferry Felix was struck by a barge on the Rhine near St. Goarshausen, Germany.   The barge was proceeding downstream when it slammed into the Felix while moored at its berth.   Damage was minor and no one was injured.  The master of the barge had made a navigational error resulting in the allision.  The water police has launched an investigation into the incident.
