Eiltank 41

The 110 meter long self-propelled tanker-barge went aground on the Rhine near Düsseldorf-Kaiserswerth, Germany.  The vessel was unable to free itself and requested assistance.   The water police were on scene shortly afterwards and an inspection showed no damage.   Due to the falling tide, the Eiltank 41 had to be lightered by pumping 400 of the 1700 tons of gas oil on board.  After the transfer of the 400 tons to another tanker, the Eiltank 41 refloated and proceeded on to Colonia.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.

Police Vessel Sunk

Police Vessel Sunk

The Karlsruhe police boat No. 5 collided with the 110 meter long, 1808 dwt barge Chemgas 22 in low visibility on the Rhine River near Rheinstrandbad, Germany.  The police boat hull was severely damaged and suffered water ingress.   The crewmen on board the police boat were rescued by the 33 meter long tug Hekla which was pushing the barge.  The disabled and sinking police boat was towed astern of the tug to shallow water where it paritially sank.  None of the three crew were injured and no reported injuries on the tug or barge.  Pollution was reported as some diesel fuel was released from the police boat.  A crane was brought to the scene to salvage the vessel.  No reports if the water police issued a fine for the incident.

Tanker Fire

Tanker Fire

The 110 meter long tanker Moinos caught fire while berthed at Ludwigshafen, Germany.   The fire started in a electronic system in the engine room.   The Moinos’s CO2 fire suppression system extinguished the blaze.  However the blaze released  dense smoke requiring the assistance of the local fire department.   The Moinos’s engine room was ventilated.   One crewman was slightly injured by the smoke.  The Moinos was loaded with a cargo of gasoline at the time of the incident.
