Amore on the Rhine

The 73 meter long self-propelled barge Amore became disabled after developing a significant list while on the Rhine.  The cargo on board the Amore was not adequately secured which led to the list.  Two other vessels, the Delta and Millennium, tied up to the Amore to help stabilize her.  Reports state there has been no water ingress and no one was injured.  The Amore was scheduled to sail to Emmericher.

Collision on the Rhine

The 136  passengers on board the 110 meter long passenger vessel River Concerto were rudely awaken to a crash in the night.   The River Concerto had  been struck by the tanker Margaux causing considerable damage above the waterline.  The River Concerto safely evacuated the passengers at Emmerich, Germany including five passengers and two crew members who were injured in the collision.   The Margaux suffered some damage from the collision, but there was no leak of the 950 tons of diesel fuel aboard.    The River Concerto had left from Basel and was bound for Rotterdam before the collision.   Local Officials are conducting an investigation into the incident.

Asleep on the Rhine

The self-propelled barges 1949 dwt Alsace and 1250 dwt Hollande went aground on the Rhine nearKarlsruhe, Germany.   Loaded with 109 containers, the two vessels  ran over two groynes before going hard aground.  The cause of the accident was that the master of the vessel had fallen asleep at the wheel.   Part of the cargo was damaged estimated at 100.000 (100,000) €.   Salvage attempts have started.
