The 40 foot long fishing vessel Demi Lynn capsized at its berth in Warren, Rhode Island.  The fishing vessel filled full of water and overturned onto its side.  No one was on the vessel at the time.  Coast Guard crews responded to the scene and place booms around the vessel to contain any pollution released.  Local firefighters plan to wait until low tide and begin pumping water out of the vessel  while divers place straps around the hull to refloat the Demi Lynn.  The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident.

Two vessel caught fire minutes after each other in the port of Providence, Rhode Island. The first vessel was the 70 foot long fishing vessel Sea Angel.  The fishing boat was docked next to the metal yard for repairs below deck when sparks from a welding torch started a fire.  Everyone on board was able to escape, but the fire engulfed the vessel.  Local firefighters were called and were able to extinguished the blaze with an hour.  Damage to the vessel’s superstructure was significant.

Only a few minutes after the Sea Angel was ablaze, authorities were alerted to a fire on the 190 meter long, 57000 dwt bulk carrier Jia Hui Shan.  The Jia Hui Shan was loaded with a cargo of scrap metal which caught fire.  The crew quickly extinguish the small fire before firefighters reached the scene.  No reports of injuries.

The 44 meter long,  608 gt tugboat Viking suffered a fire off Block Island, Rhode Island.  The fire started in the vessel’s engine room, but was quickly extinguished by the vessel’s on board fire-fighting system.  No reports of injuries to the 10 crew on board.  The fire disabled the Viking who notified authorities.  The Coast Guard dispatched multiple craft to the scene.  The owner of the Viking also dispatched several tugs to provide assistance.  The crew of the Viking were able to restart the tug’s engines a short time later and was escorted by another tug to Buzzards Bay.  No reports of pollution released.  Reports state the Viking had suffered a fire on May 30,  2014 while berthed in Richmond Terrace, New York.
