Reports state a  tugboat was stolen from its berth in East Providence, Rhode Island. The tug was spotted a short time later stranded on a sandbar near Sabin Point.  The tugboat had two men on board and the vessel was suffering water ingress.  Authorities arrived to find the tugboat abandoned.   Booms were placed around the vessel as a preventive measure.  A reward was offered for information on the theft of the vessel.

The 65 foot long fishing vessel Five J’s went aground off Brenton Point near Newport, Rhode Island.  The vessel had lost power and had gone adrift.  The crew attempted to drop anchor, but the anchor was unable to hold.  No reports of injuries.   The Five J’s had some quantity of diesel fuel on board at the time of the grounding.  Authorities have teams assessing the situation and condition of the vessel as salvage operations begins. The Coast Guard is conducting an investigation into the incident.

Margaret Holley Strikes Pier

The 66 foot fishing vessel Margaret Holley crashed into the state pier No. 5 at Jerusalem, Rhode Island.  The fishing vessel suffered a mechanical malfunction while attempting to make a turn towards its dock in Snug Harbor.   The Margaret Holley suffered minor dents to the hull, but avoided serious No injuries were reported, but people fishing on the pier had to jump out of the way before the allision.   Authorities have closed the pier until further inspection can be done.  The Coast Guard inspected the vessel before it returned to fishing.    The accident is under investigation.
