Snowdonia

Snowdonia

The fishing vessel Snowdonia sank near Kikeel Harbour, Ireland.  The Snowdonia had sent out a distress call to the RNLI before the two crew abandoned ship before  going into the water.  Luckily, another fishing vessel was nearby and pulled the men from the cold water.  The RNLIL lifeboat from Kikeeland and a Coast Guard helicopter were dispatched to the scene.  The lifeboat reached the two men first providing aid to the men until the helicopter arrived.  The men were airlifted and taken to hospital for treatment.

The new 90 meter long, 2500 tonne container vessel Huelin Dispatch went aground  near Alderney, England.  The Huelin Dispatch was on its maiden voyage with containers from Southampton to the Channel Islands when it grounded onto the rock pinnacle Pierre au Vraic.  The vessel contacted the RNLI lifeboat from Alderney which inspected the vessel spotting damage to the Huelin Dispatch’s stern.   The crew also reported that there was some water ingress, but was able controlled by temporary repairs.  No reports of injuries to the eight crew on board.   The container vessel refloated on the rising tide and  proceeded to Falmouth to drydock.

Fortitude

Fortitude

The fishing vessel Fortitude went aground near Lochinver, Scotland.  The fishing vessel had struck rocks and suffered hull damage including water ingress.   The vessel contacted the RNLI who dispatched a lifeboat to the scene.   The RNLI lifeboat brought a pump to the vessel which was able to keep the flooding in check, but not lower the water level.   A second pump was requested and delivered by a Coastguard helicopter.  With both pumps in operation, the Fortitude was taken under tow by the lifeboat and proceeded to Lochinver harbour.   Both vessels arrived safely at the harbour and the Fortitude was lifted from the water using the new boatlift.   No reports of injuries or pollution released.
