The 102 meter long r0-ro passenger ferry Elena caught fire while berthed in Crimea, Ukraine. The ferry had begun to maneuver away from its berth in the port when the crew spotted a thick plume of smoke along the starboard lower deck. The crew quickly responded and were able to extinguish the blaze in a few minutes. No reports of injuries or pollution released. An investigation found there was a short-circuit in one of the compartments in the lower deck which resulted in the fire. Damage was limited and after an inspection by local authorities, the Elena was allowed to continue on its schedule route across the Kerch Strait.

The 56 meter long ro-ro passenger ferry Shoyo Maru allided with the moored 235 meter long, 91,569 dwt bulk carrier Dyna Camellia near the port of Kure, Hiroshima, Japan. The ferry was headed to Matsuyama with 62 passengers when it had suffered a power blackout and lost control before striking the Dyna Camellia moored at a nearby quay. Three passengers were slightly injured, but no damage reported. Reports state the Shoyo Maru cancelled its voyage and returned to Kure.

The 184 foot long, 561 gt ro-ro passenger ferry Makouria ran aground on the Essequibo River in Guyana. The ferry was headed to Parika from Supenaam and Wakenaam when it ran aground heavily ladden during a very low tide. The vessel remained stuck until the following high tide. Reports state the master knew the of low water level and may have to decided to risk proceeding due to the presence of an ambulance on board with a patient who had been injured. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
