The 164 meter long, 10454 dwt ro-ro car carrier Modern Express became disabled in the Bay of Biscay while en route to Le Havre, France. The Modern Express was loaded with a cargo of vehicles and 3,700 tons of wood from Owendo, Gabon when it suffered a cargo shift.  The shift caused the car carrier to develop a heavy starboard list of 40 degrees.  The crew requested assistance and a helicopter was dispatched by Spanish authorities.  All 22 crew on board the car carrier was air lifted to safety.  A tug arrived on scene and was monitoring the situation. Reports state the owners  of the Modern Express have arranged to have a salvage firm to assess the risks and evaluate salvage options while the vessel remains far off the coast.

The 157 meter long, 12830 dwt ro-ro cargo vessel Super Shuttle Roro 10 ran aground off Ouano wharf, Mandaue City, Cebu, Philippines. The Super Shuttle Roro 10 had departed from the wharf heading for Cagayan de Oro City when it became stuck in shallow water at low tide. The cargo vessel was later released on the rising tide and towed back to Ouano to be inspected for damage. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

The 84 meter long ro-ro passenger ferry Vikingen ran aground at Årsnes, Norway. The ferry was proceeding to Årsnes when it suffered engine failure as it approached the port.  The ferry drifted until it ran onto the breakwater. After the grounding, the ferry released a large amount of smoke and exhaust causing panic among the 34 passengers on board. The passengers were directed to the ferry’s lounge until they could be evacuated. No reports of injuries or pollution released. The Vikingen was later pulled free by the ferry Hordaland.
