The 190 meter long, 6277 dwt ro-ro passenger ship Sun Flower Daisetsu caught fire off the coast of Hokkaido, Japan. The Sun Flower Daisetsu was en route to Tomakomai from Tokyo with 71 passengers and 23 crew.  Reports states a fire started from one of the 160 trucks on the cargo deck.  The  fire quickly grew and got out of control and the crew quested assistance.  Authorities dispatched 15 patrol boats along with 5 helicopters to the scene.  The crew mustered all the passengers on board to the lifeboat stations where they gathered on deck wearing life jackets. When authorities arrived, all 71 passengers and 22 crew were evacuated off the ferry.  One crew member was reported missing.

On July 27, the 56 meter long ro-ro passenger ferry Tustna became disabled while passing between Tidsdal and Linge.  The Tustna had a fault in the cooling water system causing the engine failure.  The ferry went adrift in the fjord and the crew requested assistance.  Another ferry, the Aukra, came to the Tustna assistance.  The Aukra towed the Tustna to Eidsdal where it berthed.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.

The 170 meter long, 6,550 dwt ro-ro passenger ferry AF Marina became disabled off Ancona, Italy. The ferry had departed from Ancona bound for Durres, Albania when it suffered engine failure a few meters from port. The crew were unable to restart the engines and the vessel requested assistance.  The AF Marina was towed back to port and was inspected by authorities.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.  The 527 passengers and their vehicles were transferred to another ferry.
