The 187 meter long, 11700 dwt ro-ro car ferry Seaways Corona caught fire while en route from Frederica to Copenhagen.  The fire started on the main deck and the vessel sent out a distress call.  Before any rescue vessel could reach the scene, the crew was able to douse the blaze using the automated sprinkler system.  The ferry altered its course and headed to Helsingborg as they investigated the cause of the fire.  The ferry arrived at the Helsingborg pier a short time later.  While at the pier, the fire reignited, but the crew with assistance from the local fire brigade was able to extinguish it an hour later.  Reports state the fire fighting was hampered by the cramp conditions between containers and trailers along with the heavy smoke.  There was also a concern as many containers had hazardous goods.  No injuries to the 24 people on board.  The Seaways Corona suffered slight damage and was slated to leave the following day after being inspected.
