FINNFELLOW

The 188 meter long, 7885 dwt ro-ro ferry Finnfellow caught fire near Naantali, Finland.  The fire started when an air-conditioning system had overheated.  The crew was to extinguish the blaze and later ventilated the ferry’s decks.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.   The Finnfellow was able to depart Naantali a few hours later bound for Kapellskärts.

The 145 meter long, 6897 dwt ro-ro ferry Super Shuttle Roro 8 suffered a severe list after grounding while at Mandaue City, Philippines.  The ferry was loading vehicles at the pier when the vessel’s bottom struck bottom during low tide.  The Super Shuttle Roro 8 lost stability and listed over to one side.   No reports of injuries to the 45 crew and workers on board at the time.  A crane barge was requested to help the ferry regain its upright position while the crew lighten the vessel.

KVAM

The 64 meter long, 200 dwt ro-ro ferry Kvam allided with the pier at Lepsøya, Norway.  The ferry suffered damage to its bow and had to be pulled out of service.   The vessel proceeded to a shipyard later the same day for repairs.    No reports of injuries or pollution released.   Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the allision.
