Evia Star

The 87 meter long, 940 dwt ro-ro ferry Evia Star collided with a yacht near the port of Marmari, Greece.  The ferry loaded with 57 passengers and vehicles was departing for a scheduled voyage to Rafina when it struck the sailboat.   The sailboat suffered damage to its mast while the Evia Star was undamaged.  No reports of injuries.   The Coast Guard dispatched a rescue boat to tow the yacht back to Marmari.   The Evia Star proceeded back to Marmari to be surveyed, but was later able to continue on its voyage.

During it’s first voyage of 2012, the 125 meter long, 3058 dwt ro-ro ferry S.S. Badger ran aground in the harbor at Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The Badger had left Ludington, Michigan behind schedule when it reached Manitowoc.   As it approached the pier,  it became struck bottom in the harbor.   A tug was requested and a few hours it was able to assist the ferry to the pier.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.  The Badger remained in Manitowoc another four hours after one of the engines suffered a malfunction.

Grand Star RoRo 3

Grand Star RoRo 3

The 37 meter long, 363 dwt ro-ro ferry Grand Star RoRo 3 went aground in shallow water near Sorsogon, Philippines.  The ferry loaded with 155 passengers from Allen Northern Samar went aground when the vessel went off course due to a strong current.  The Grand Star was refloated later by the assistance of tugs and berthed safely at Sorsogon.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.
