Collision in Marmara Sea

The 193 meter long, 9830 dwt ro-ro ferry Und Ege collided with the 88 meter long, 470 dwt high speed ferry Osman Gazi 1 in Sea of Marmara near Sivriada’nin, Turkey.  The Und Ege struck the port superstructure of the Gazi 1’s hull causing minimal damage, but there was some panic among the passengers.   Luckily, there were no injuries to the 830 passengers and 150 vehicles on the Osman Gazi 1.   No reports of injuries or damage on the Und Ege.  Authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident.

Kvernes Aground

Kvernes Aground

The 50 meter long, 183 dwt ro-ro ferry Kvernes went aground off Festøya, Hundeidvik, Norway.  The Kvernes had just proceeded some 200 meters from the port when it struck bottom.  The ferry was unable to refloat itself after attempting to shift vehicles on the deck.  The seven passengers were taken back ashore.   The vessel is to be released on the next high tide.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released.   Authorities have stated that alcohol was not a factor in the grounding.

Odin Sydfyen

Odin Sydfyen

The 70 meter long, 450 dwt ro-ro ferry Odin Sydfyen suffered damage from a mechanical fault while sailing between Tars and Spodsbjerg, Denmark.  The damage was significant enough to pull the ferry out of service.  The Odin Sydfyen is to be taken to a shipyard for repairs.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released.
