Torgtind Ashore

The 70 meter long, 460 dwt ro-ro ferry Torgtind went ashore at a pier in Igerøy, Norway.   The Torgtind had been moored at its berth in Igerøy when strong winds broke the mooring lines allowing the ferry to drift ashore.   No injuries to the five crew on board who were asleep at the time of the incident.  The Torgtind was refloated the next high tide with the assistance of the vessel Harald V.  The vessel was undergo inspection for any damages.   No reports of pollution being released.

Ferry Allision

The 1680 dwt  ro-ro ferry Lite Ferry 8 allided with the anchored barge Iron Man 1 off Bantolinao Point, Cebu, Philippines.  The ferry loaded with 221 passengers and 44 crew struck the anchor line of the barge.   The Lite Ferry 8 suffered only minor dent to it’s bow while the barge was undamaged.  No reports of injuries on the ferry or to the 3 crew on board the Iron Man 1 at the time of the incident.  The Lite Ferry 8 returned to Cebu to be inspected.  Authorities ordered the barge to be moved to the pier to avoid further accidents and to be inspected.   Reports state the barge had no running lights and was anchored in the navigation lane.  The Philippine Coast Guard is conducting an investigation into the incident.

Ficaria Seaways

The 230 meter long, 11665 dwt ro-ro ferry Ficaria Seaways broke free of its moorings at Gothenburg, Sweden due to the severe weather.  The lines holding the stern to the quay broke allowing the vessel to swing out into the river.  Tugs were sent to the scene, but were unable to push the vessel back into position.   The tugs attempted to drag the ferry to another berth when it bottomed-out causing damage to its propeller shaft and rudder.  Reports state the water levels rose some 1.5 meters above normal due to the storm.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released.
