Disabled off Park Head

Disabled off Park Head

The fishing vessel Tizzardlee-on became disabled off Park Head off Newquay, Cornwall when it’s propeller became fouled by rope.   The three men on board contacted the Newquay RNLI which launched their lifeboat.    The lifeboat reached the scene and took the Tizzardlee-on under tow back to Newquay.   As the pair of the vessels approached Newquay harbour, they determined that the wasn’t sufficient to allow the fishing vessel to enter.   The Tizzardlee-on was moored to a buoy in Newquay Bay.   No reports of injuries or pollution being released.

Busy RNLI Lifeboats

The 38 meter long fishing vessel Vardborg became disabled off Ducansby Head, Scotland when it suffered an engine failure.  The crew contacted Aberdeen coastguard that they needed a tow back to Scrabster harbour.   The RNLI Wick lifeboat was contacted as it was Vardborg was in it’s jurisdiction.   The Wick lifeboat reached the Vardborg and took it under tow.   A few hours later the crew of the Vardborg were able to repair the engine and regain power.  The fishing vessel contacted the lifeboat stating it was wanting to stay on the fishing grounds.  The lifeboat dropped the tow and stood by until the Vardborg pass through Pentland Firth.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released.

On Wednesday, the RNLI lifeboat from Thurso was called out to the fishing vessel Deeside.  The Deeside had broken down near the coast of Holborn Head.   The Thurso lifeboat was launched and reached the vessel in 3o minutes.  The lifeboat took the Deeside under tow back to Scrabster harbour.   No reports of injury of the 5 crew on board the Deeside and no pollution was released.

The 29 meter long freighter Francesca Prior was off Higham, England when a fire broke out in the accomodation area of the vessel.   The two crewmen on board contacted the Gravesend RNLI lifeboat for assistance.   The vessel’s wheelhouse became filled with black smoke while the weather worsen into a very heavy squall with force 7 winds.   The crew had attempted to fight the fire using the fire extinguishers and the fire hose, but had to close off the area due to the smoke. The RNLI lifeboat was able to reach the vessel quickly and was able to clear the smoke out of the wheelhouse.   The vessels then proceeded to Denton Wharf where Kent fire service was waiting to assist.   The fire service was able to extinguish the fire .   Initial reports state the fire may have been caused by bad lagging around the engine exhaust system near the accommodation area.
