Collision on the Don

Volgo Don 147

On October 2, the 138 meter long, 5150 dwt cargo vessel Volgo Don 147 collided with the 140 meter long, 7441 dwt tanker Gloria on the Don River near Bagaevskaya, Russia.  The Volgo Don 147 was headed for the Azov Sea with a cargo of barley when it struck head-on with the Gloria which was proceeding upstream in ballast. Both vessels sustained significant bow damage including hull breaches and water ingress on the Volgo Don 147.  No reports of injuries. Both vessels drop anchor nearby to allow authorities to conduct an investigation.  Reports state both vessels were not in danger of sinking. Tugs were dispatched to take the vessels under tow.

POLARIS

The 27 meter long, 275 dwt fishing vessel Polaris ran aground in Kola Bay in the Barents Sea near Murmansk, Russia. The Polaris had suffered a power black out and was unable to free itself.  The trawler requested assistance with a naval tug responding.  The tug was able to pull the Polaris free and proceeded to tow the fishing vessel back to Murmansk.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.

The 115 meter long, 3340 dwt cargo vessel Amur 2507 ran aground on the Don River near Shmat, Russia.  The Amur 2507 was en route to Samsun, Turkey from Rostov-on-Don with a cargo of wheat when it grounded on the river.  Tugs were dispatched to the scene, but were unable to refloat the cargo vessel.  Indications suggest the Amur 2507 will need to be lightered before it can be refloated.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.
