The 56 meter long, 857 dwt fishing vessel Carolina 33 caught fire in the Okhotsk Sea near Magadan, Russia. The fire started in the fishing processing workshop by an electrical short circuit in an ice generator.  The blaze spread to the engine room and on to the main deck.

The crew sent out a distress call with the nearby trawler Yantar 1 responding. The Yantar 1 arrived on scene and transferred some 39 out of 52 crew off the Carolina 33. Authorities dispatched the salvage tug Sibirskiy to assist in firefighting efforts.

No further details reported to the status of the vessel or extent of damage. No reports of injuries to the 39 crew rescued.

On February 16, the 25 meter long, 36 dwt fishing vessel Shkval became disabled in the Barents Sea off the coast of Russia. The Shkval was trawling in heavy seas when it suffered engine failure. Unable to restart the engine, the vessel sent out a distress call and requested assistance.

Local authorities dispatched the tug Murmanryba to take the Shkval under tow. Reports state the tug would arrive several hour later and tow the Shkval to Murmansk.  There were no injuries to the nine crew on board, damage or pollution released.

On January 1, the 115 meter long,3261 dwt cargo vessel Galisa allided with the 114 meter long, 3209 dwt cargo vessel Volgo Balt 236 at the port of Yeysk, Russia. The Galisa was maneuvering to berth at Yeysk when the vessel struck the moored Volgo-Balt 236.  The Galisa suffered only a minor dent in the bow, but the Volg0-Balt 236 sustained a portside hull breach amidship. The breach was above the waterline and no reports of water ingress. Authorities report the incident was due to strong winds at the time. No reports of injuries or pollution released.
