Brompton Sun

On July 9, the 50 meter long offshore supply vessel Brompton Sun caught fire in Sea of Okhotsk off Sakhalin Island, Russia.  The Brompton Sun was en route to an oil rig with 42 passengers when the fire started in the engine room. The crew was able to extinguish the blaze, but the supply vessel had sustained damage. The offshore supply vessel Katun arrived on scene and the passengers were safely transferred off the Brompston Sun. No report of injuries. The Brompton Sun returned back to port under its own power.

The 126 meter long, 4673 dwt ro-ro cargo vessel Kompozitor Rakhmaninov ran aground on the Volga River off Astrakhan, Russia. The Kompozitor Rakhmaninov was proceeding in ballast for Olya when it veered off and struck the left bank. Unfortunately, the cargo vessel had only partially passed under a railroad bridge leaving it stuck. Reports state tugs were dispatched to the scene to assist in refloating the vessel. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

On May 20, the 140 meter long, 6613 dwt tanker Aleksandr Shemagin allided on the Volga River near Balakovo, Russia. The Aleksandr Shemagin was en route to Syzran from Rostov-on-Don when it struck an embankment along the river. Reports state the tanker and embankment sustained slight damage. No reports of injuries or pollution released.
