On March 23, the 1970 dwt cargo vessel Binh Duong 688 ran aground off the Hon Gom Peninsula near Saigon, Vietnam. The Binh Duong 688 was proceeding with 1900 tons of coal when a fishing vessel was spotted crossing in its path.  The cargo veered away to avoid colliding with the fishing vessel and ran up on to the rocks.  The cargo vessel sustained hull damage in the bow, cargo hold and engine room.  The Binh Duong 688 suffered water ingress and the engine room flooded.  All 9 crew on board were rescued safely.  Reports state the vessel still had some 6,000 litres of diesel fuel on board.
