The 30 meter long two-masted schooner Angelina Catherina caught fire while off Kiel Holtenau, Germany. The fire started in the engine room, but was quickly contained from spreading to other parts of the ship by the crew. The crew activated the onboard automatic extinguishing system and requested assistance from the water police. The DGzRS lifeboat Berlin responded with members of the local fire brigade to the scene. Additional lifeboats and police patrol boats arrived on scene. The vessels berthed at quay in Kiel Holtenau and the fire was finally extinguished a short time later. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

The 158 foot long schooner Clipper City ran aground in New York Harbor near Liberty Island. The Clipper City had departed from lower Manhattan with 121 passengers on a day cruise when the top-sailed schooner ran onto a shoal near the island.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. The passengers were transferred off the vessel safely.  The Clipper City was taken under tow by a tug and returned to port on the following high tide. The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident.

The fishing schooner Zinto Maru sank in the Kuril Strait near Kurilsk Island, Russia.  The Zinto Maru was overwhelmed in a  bad storm.   The crew of 14 were rescued by another fishing vessel.  No reports of injuries.   The Zinto Maru was based out of the port of Sakhalin Kholmsk Kong.   No further details reported.
