The 48 meter long fishing vessel Onward caught fire off Stromness, Orkney, Scotland. The crew sent of a distress call with the Shetland Coastguard and a merchant vessel responding. The Coastguard dispatched a helicopter from Sumburgh which was able to winch the five crew safely. The crew were later taken to hospital suffering from hypothermia. No further details reported.
The 112 meter long, 6358 dwt freighter Flinterspirit went aground off North Uist Island, Hebrides, Scotland. The Flinterspirit was headed to Belfast from Mantyluoto, Finland with a cargo of wood when it hit the rocks. The vessel was refloated the next day by a tug and escorted to Stornoway for inspection. No injuries, damage or pollution reported.
The 57 foot long ferry Glenachulish went aground on Loch Carron near North Strome, Scotland. The ferry ran onto the rocks near the slipway. The crew was quickly able to refloat the vessel and return to port. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released. The Glenachulish has been running between North and South Strome after a road closure in December 2011.
The Glenachulish was built in 1969 at Troon with the capcity to carry six vehicles. It has operated as the Glenelg ferry across to Kylerhea narrows. Ther ferry is also the last operating turntable ferry in Scotland.
