Two on Fire in Providence
Two vessel caught fire minutes after each other in the port of Providence, Rhode Island. The first vessel was the 70 foot long fishing vessel Sea Angel. The fishing boat was docked next to the metal yard for repairs below deck when sparks from a welding torch started a fire. Everyone on board was able to escape, but the fire engulfed the vessel. Local firefighters were called and were able to extinguished the blaze with an hour. Damage to the vessel’s superstructure was significant.
Only a few minutes after the Sea Angel was ablaze, authorities were alerted to a fire on the 190 meter long, 57000 dwt bulk carrier Jia Hui Shan. The Jia Hui Shan was loaded with a cargo of scrap metal which caught fire. The crew quickly extinguish the small fire before firefighters reached the scene. No reports of injuries.
