Sea Star Disabled

The 3605 dwt freighter Sea Star 1 became disabled off Plastun Bay in the Sea of Japan.   The vessel sent out a distress signal that the vessel’s engine has failed and was adrift.    The salvage vessel Lazurit was dispatched and will take the Sea Star under tow to Nakhodka.  The Sea Star 1 was sailing from Vanino to China with a cargo of 3600 qm of timber.   No reports of injuries.

Mikhail Lukonin Disabled

Mikhail Lukonin Disabled

The 6221 dwt freighter Mikhail Lukonin became disabled in the Sea of Japan when its engine failed.  The vessel requested assistance when the motor vessel Pioner Kholmska responded and took the Mikhail Lukonin under tow.   The vessels proceeded to Djigit Bay, Primorye, Russia.  The Mikhail Lukonin was sailing from Russia to Korea with a cargo of scrap.

Tanker Seiyoh foundered

Tanker Seiyoh foundered

The 499 dwt tanker Seiyoh capsized and sank in the Sea of Japan. The tanker left Oita, Japan bound for Niigata with a cargo of vinyl acetate monomer. The vessel developed a list as it was pounded by high winds and 12-16 foot waves. The vessel’s engine room flooded and the crew abandoned ship. Reports state that 4 of the 5 crewmen onboard were rescued, but one perished later from cardiopulmonary arrest. The master of the vessel is reported missing.
