The 80 meter long self-propelled barge Getan went aground on the Danube River near Winzer, Germany.  The vessel was en route to Russe from Deggendorf when it grounded onto a gravel bar.  The master of the Getan had been blinded by the sun and steered the barge out of the fairway.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

The 80 meter long self-propelled barge Angelus Dei became disabled on the Hunte near Oldenburg, Germany.   The Angelus Dei  had problems its rudder gear when a fire broke out in the engine room.  The motor on the emergency rudder had caught fire from oil that escaped from the engine.  The crew were able to extinguished the fire.  The vessel returned to Oldenburg.  No reports of injuries.  The vessel’s bilge was polluted with an oil-water mixture.  The water police detained the vessel until the pollution was removed.

Saga

SAGA

The 86 meter long self-propelled barge Saga went aground on the Danube River near Deggendorf, Germany.  The Saga was driven onto a gravel bar when the master made a navigational error and steered the vessel out of the fairway.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.  The Saga grounded caused traffic on the Danube to be halted until it can be refloated.  A tow boat was requested and reports state the vessel will be refloated the next day.  The Saga was en route to Straubing from Passau with 920 tons of corn.
