The 67 meter long self-propelled barge Risico collided with a dredge on a canal near Buitenkaag, Netherlands.  The hull of the Risico was damaged with a 30 cm hole above the waterline.  No reports of injuries.  The Risico’s fuel tank was ruptured and the vessel released 1000 litres of diesel fuel into the canal.  A 900 meter long sheen developed around the vessel before the leak could be patched.   Authorities placed booms to contain the pollution.  Clean up efforts should take a few days to complete.
