The 86 meter long self-propelled barge La Fosca went aground on the Rhine near Rettbergsaue, Germany.  The vessel was headed to Mainz from Schweinfurt with 1100 tons of rapeseed when it had to reduce speed and caught turned in the river current.   The vessel’s bow became wedged on a gravel bar.  After several attempts to refloat failed, another vessel was taken along side to lighter some of the cargo on board.  The following day the vessel was refloated.  The La Fosca proceeded to Mainz.  No reports of injury, damage or pollution released.

The 105 meter long self-propelled barge Wendelin allided with the pier on the Nieuwe Maas at Bolnes, Ridderkerk, Netherlands.  The Wendelin’s bow became wedged under the pier.   After 10 minutes, the vessel was able to break free on its own.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.  Both the pier and vessel suffered significant damage.  Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
