The 110 meter long self-propelled barge Uniqueship suffered an explosion and fire while at Rotterdam, Netherlands.  Two crewmen were caught in the explosion with one jumping into the water.   Both men suffered injuries to the arms, legs and back.   Both crewmen were rescued and taken to hospital.   The local fire brigade arrived on scene and extinguished the fire.  No further details reported.

The 67 meter long self-propelled barge Heike W caught fire on the Osnabrück Canal while at Osnabrück, Germany.   The fire started in the engine room when a diesel generator overheated.  The crew was able to extinguish the blaze with the local fire brigade assisting.   No reports of injuries or pollution released.   Damage was reported to be an estimated 100.000 € including a replacement generator.   The water police has launched an investigation into the incident.

Speedo

Speedo

The 80 meter long self-propelled barge Speedo went aground on the Danube River near Regelsbrunn, Austria.  The Speedo went aground near where another vessel sank in May 2011 closing traffic during the day.   No reports of injuries or pollution released.   The Speedo will be lightered before any refloating attempts are made.    The vessel was en route to Rotterdam from Passau.  Reports state the water level in the area has been lower the last few days.
