The 110 meter long self-propelled tanker Emma went aground on the Rhine near Cologne, Germany due to low tide.   Ten minutes later the the 86 meter long self-propelled tanker Newton went aground a short distance away.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.   The Newton was loaded with 1543 tons of petroleum while the Emma was loaded with 1800 tons of diesel. The container barge Henri R later attempted to pull the Emma free.  The outcome was not reported.  The vessels may required to be lightered before other attempts are made.

The 73 meter long self propelled tanker Schloss Neuschwanste allided with a railway bridge over the Wesel-Datteln channel near Wesel, Germany.   The tanker struck the bridge destroying the wheelhouse.   The Schloss Neuschwanste proceeded forward until it collided with two other vessels moored nearby.   The master of the Schloss Neuschwanste was seriously injured and taken to hospital.   Traffic on the railway bridge was temporarily halted until it could be inspected for damage.   Reports state the damage to the Schloss Neuschwanste has disabled the vessel, but the cargo of butane had not leaked.

The 110 meter long, self-propelled tanker-barge Ireen went aground on the Rhine between Bacharach and Lorchhausen.   The Ireen was en route to Birsfelden with a cargo of methanol when it grounded.   No reports of injuries.  A lighter tanker was brought to the scene and unloaded some 225 tons of methanol before the Ireen was refloated.   The tanker proceeded to St. Goar where authorities launched an investigation.   Reports state the master of the vessel failed an alcohol test and was fined 700 euros and had his certificate confiscated.
