The 89 meter long, 2755 dwt cargo vessel Nazmehr ran aground in the Caspian Sea off Kuryk, Kazakhstan. The Nazmehr had been at anchor when a winter storm blew in. The storm caused the vessel’s anchors to drag and the Nazmehr ran aground.  The Nazmehr’s hull sustained multiple breaches as it was push against the rocky bottom.

Multiple tugs and barges have been contracted to help with salvage and lightering efforts. No reports of injuries. Reports state the Nazmehr was loaded with containers with container goods and cars. The containers will be offloaded onto barges while divers will attempt to conduct temporary repairs and dewatering efforts.

The 64 meter long ro-ro passenger ferry Heilhorn ran aground near  Sandvikvåg, Norway.  The vessel was just a short distance from the pier when passengers heard a loud thud followed by a grinding noise.  The Heilhorn had run hard aground on an offshore rock. The 13 passengers on board were evacuated to the ferry  Raunefjord assisted by a lifeboat. No reports of injuries. The Heilhorn was later refloated assisted by a lifeboat and proceeded to Sandvikvåg.

Asakaze

The 121 meter long, 11,382 dwt cargo vessel Asakaze ran aground between Minamichita and Himaga Island, Japan. The Asakaze was en route to Kunuura with 10,000 tons of raw sugar from Bangkok when it ran unto shallow water. No injuries to the 18 crew, damage or pollution released.  Authorities state a salvage vessel was en route to help refloat the Asakaze.
