Volgo-Balt 206

The 114 meter long, 3492 dwt freighter Volgo-Balt 206 went aground on the River Don.  The freighter had steered off the navigation channel while another vessel passed.   No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.   The Volgo-Balt 206 was en route to Poti, Georgia from Rostov on Don.

Sedna Desgagnes

The 139 meter long, 12612 dwt freighter Sedna Desgagnes ran aground on the St. Lawrence River near Prescott, Ontario. The vessel was en route to Chicago from Sorel, Quebec with a cargo of iron ore when it hard aground.   No reports of injuries to any of the 18 crew members on board.   Authorities report the Senda Desgagnes is hard aground listing slightly to starboard.   Two tugs were dispatched to the scene, but were unable to refloat the freighter.  When the vessel is refloated, it will be taken to Prescott where divers will conduct an inspection.

The 68 meter long, 2818 dwt freighter Linda went aground at the 153 kilometer mark on the Volga-Caspian Sea Canal.   The freighter struck bottom, but did not suffer any damage.   Traffic was stopped on the canal until the vessel could be refloated.  The Linda was loaded with 1700 tons of cargo bound for Amirabad, Iran.
