Phu Tan Sank

Phu Tan IMO 8715455, dwt 14205, built 1988, flag Vietnam.

The 14205 dwt freighter Phu Tan capsized and sank in the South China Sea while sailing from Danang to Haiphong, Vietnam. The vessel was hit by a severe gale with 100 km per hour winds and 6 meter waves. The vessel reported losing engine power and water ingress. The Phu Tan had 25 crew onboard with 2 passengers. Reports to the fate of the crew are conflicting. One report states 26 survivors and 1 death while another states 2 rescued and 25 are listed as missing. Some confusion is result of six additional fishing vessel sinking as well.

The 865 dwt reefer vessel Refrigerator-604 ran onto the rocks while entering Malo-Kurilskaya Bay, Shikotan Island, Kuril Islands. The vessel sits just 30 meters offshore rolled onto its right side. The vessel sustained heavy damage to the ballast tanks, hull holed, and engine room flooded. The crew of 14 were rescued. A tug is to be on scene to pump fuel out before the tanks leak. No reports on the cargo of 800 tons of forzen saury, but the vessel was listed to be scrapped.

Ill-fated ro-ro Jolly Amaranto

The 10677 dwt ro-ro Jolly Amaranto capsized and sank in port of Alexandria, Egypt while proceeding to be berthed. The vessel had earlier had been assisted when the vessel had a heavy list and lost it’s cargo of containers on its upper deck. The Jolly Amaranto was taken under tow back to Alexandria. In port, the vessel had water ingress and capsized. No reports of injury of the 21 crewmen onboard. No reports to the cause, but it is presumed the cargo shifted resulting in the vessel capsizing.
